Alleluia, for six solo voices, unaccompanied. Duration 5’45”.

This Alleluia uses the Dies Irae (Wrath of God) as its primary melodic material. I must have been in a pretty bad mood when I thought that up; my private name for the piece is “Grumpy Alleluia,” but it’s actually an energetic, urgent take on the centuries-old traditional sacred piece.

It was composed for the virtuoso vocal group Ekmeles.

The recordings are of the world premiere performance at Rutgers University. I’ve revised the piece substantially since then; these recordings are of the beginning and end of the piece, which has remained mostly intact.
