My First Pop-up Book of the Infinite Beyond

My First Pop-up Book of the Infinite Beyond, for amplified flute, percussion (2 congas, suspended cymbal, Japanese zipper rattle, duck call) and keyboard sampling synthesizer. Duration 10’30”. (1992)

This piece is dedicated “in memory of John Cage,” and it is about the act of listening. Full of sound effects, funk rhythms and sudden starts and stops, it’s a crowd-pleaser; it was voted Audience Favorite for St. Louis new-music ensemble Synchronia’s 1999 season

The recording is of a live performance at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City, featuring Patti Monson, flute, Michael Lipsey, percussion, and David Wolfson, keyboard.
